Student Life at The Home School
Student life at The Home School is vibrant and holistic, offering children a rhythm that balances academics, creativity, sports, and values. Each day is thoughtfully structured, beginning with morning sports from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. and ending with evening sports from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., ensuring physical fitness and discipline. Between these, children engage in enrichment academic classes from 8:20 to 9:00 a.m., designed to reinforce concepts, encourage inquiry, and provide personalised support.
Life at the campus extends beyond classrooms. Students actively participate in celebrations of Indian festivals, which bring cultural traditions alive and foster respect for diversity. They are also guided to develop entrepreneurial skills through small projects, exhibitions, and creative ventures, giving them confidence to innovate and lead. Service is central to student life — children are encouraged to engage in charity work for local communities, cultivating empathy and social responsibility.
Unique opportunities such as house visits expose students to different cultures, broadening their worldview and nurturing appreciation of diversity. Regular field trips and academic excursions connect classroom learning to real-life experiences, whether through visits to historical sites, industries, farms, or cultural centres. These experiences deepen understanding and inspire curiosity.
The House system — Nilgiris, Kodaikanal, Valparai, and Yercaud — adds a layer of community and camaraderie, while clubs and committees enable students to contribute to school life, organise events, and practice leadership. Mealtimes are also part of student learning, with children sitting cross-legged on the floor, eating from plantain leaves, and taking turns to serve one another, reinforcing humility and equality.
