The Lower Secondary Division at The Home School comprises Grades 6, 7, and 8,which correspond to Cambridge Lower Secondary Stages 6, 7, 8, and 9. This is a crucial phase in the child’s journey, bridging primary foundations with advanced secondary learning. The curriculum includes English, Mathematics, Science, Computing, Tamil, and Hindi, enabling students to gain both academic breadth and depth while continuing to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills
At this stage, children are encouraged to explore ideas more independently, question assumptions, and engage in collaborative projects. Learning extends beyond the classroom through presentations, fieldwork, inquiry-based projects, and Cambridge Checkpoint exams, which serve as international benchmarks of progress. The Primary Checkpoint (end of Grade 6) and the Lower Secondary Checkpoint (end of Grade 8) provide valuable insights into each child’s strengths and areas for growth, while also giving families a clear sense of how their children compare with peers across the world.
Facilitators guide students with care, ensuring that academic challenges are balanced with emotional and social support. Assessment is both formative and summative, including quizzes, vivas, projects, and international testing, allowing a comprehensive evaluation of each child’s progress
Beyond academics, students immerse themselves in a vibrant co-curricular programme: Bharatham, Kalari, Silambam, Karate, Chess, Yoga, Art, Gardening, Music (Veena, Vocal, Mridangam), Theatre, Photography, STEM Club, Literary Club, Finance Club, and Eco Club. The House system — Nilgiris, Kodaikanal, Valparai, and Yercaud — further builds teamwork, healthy competition, and leadership.
By the end of Grade 8, students are prepared with strong subject knowledge, critical awareness, and a global outlook. The Lower Secondary Division nurtures adolescents who are resilient, confident, and ready to step into the academic rigour of IGCSE with enthusiasm and clarity of purpose.
